How Does a Complete Earthing and Lighting Protection System Protect you?
The effects of lightning are immediate – damage to connected electrical equipment, resulting in damage to buildings, trees, livestock, and even personal injury. A typical lightning strike has a voltage of about 1 billion volts and a current of 10,000 to 200,000 amps and can reach temperatures of 28,000°C. A reliable earthing protection system includes both structural lightning protection and transient voltage protection. They play an important role in dissipating electrical energy into the ground to prevent damage. The electrical flashes caused by lightning can start fires and/or explosions and cause disturbances around the building or home. Worse, they can damage equipment and cause personal injury. Instead of travelling through the building’s electrical wiring, conduits, or water pipes where they could cause significant destruction, electrical energy is directed to a less destructive path to the ground.
